Man Used Facebook to Groom Child
- A man has been jailed for three-and-a-half years after grooming a child to send naked pictures to him. He also met and sexually assaulted her and was found in possession of child sexual abuse material.
- The man used Facebook to contact the child and travelled by bus and train to meet them in a North Wales town.
- Judge Niclas Parry at Mold Crown Court said the case underlined the dangers to children of social media.
Teenager Appears in Court Over Child Sexual Abuse Charges
- A teenager aged 17 is appearing in court after filming himself sexually assaulting an 18-month-old baby just weeks before he attacked and sexually assaulted a school girl in Letchworth.
- After police seized and examined the teenager’s devices they discovered child sexual abuse images.
- The teenager may face an eight-and-a-half year prison sentence after being charged with a total of 15 offences. He has pleaded guilty to all charges.
Privacy Group Begins Legal Challenge Over Government’s Track and Trace App
- Privacy campaigners are preparing a legal challenge to the government’s track and trace programme as fears continue to grow over how data will be collected and stored.
- The Open Rights Group (ORG) has begun drafting a letter of it’s concerns after Public Health England stated that data of those identified as having Covid 19 would be stored for 20 years.
- ORG’s executive Director Jim Killock said “our concern is people will feel reluctant to participate if they feel their personal data is leaving their control.”

- Serious concerns have been raised over children in custody during the pandemic after evidence shows some are getting 40 minutes a day outside their cell.
- An investigation by The Office of Children’s Commissioner for England has reported a series of serious consequences for children’s rights, wellbeing and long-term outcomes”.
- Children in custody have had all activities restricted in attempts to comply with social distancing measures.

Half of School Children Will Stay at Home
- Schools begin to reopen today across England but it is expected that half of these children, amounting to 1 million, will stay at home as parents, teachers and local councils remain sceptical of the government’s assurances that schools are now safe.
- The education secretary said: “While there might be some nervousness, I want to reassure parents and teachers that the welfare of children and staff continues to be the heart of all of our considerations.”
